It's back, baby!

Technically an oldie but a goodie, the Reserva Original is a cigar that Plasencia debuted years ago as Reserva Organica. The Plasencia family is ecstatic about this, as they should be because it is truly a one-of-a-kind cigar. Described as one that Columbus would have enjoyed when he discovered Nicaragua, it is the first and only fully organic blend in the entire world!

This green niche product began growth in 2001, and the Plasencia family has this unique tobacco for the Reserva Original certified by OSHA every year. These handmade beauties are medium in body and are made with the same sweet tobacco blend as the Reserva Organica. Give this resurfaced gem a whirl.

For as bad of a cigar as it was featured in my last review, this one really helped me move on mentally from that experience.

On New Year's Day of this year, I reviewed the Plasencia 1865 Alma Fuerte, as it was a cigar I had noticed around the shop and had heard about from customers. I won't forget how good that cigar was. At the time, I had not had much experience with Plasencia as a brand, but that cigar, while very expensive, was worth every penny. It was an excellent way to kick off the new year, being surrounded with friends while watching some college football. None of us knew what this year would hold, and how much of a kick in the young the year 2020 would be, but that day is one where I have good memories thanks to the awesome Plasencia cigar I smoked.

Unfortunately, outside of the Alma Fuerte and the Alma de Fuego, we don't have much else from Plasencia lurking around the store. I ventured out onto the internet to find some new Plasencia offerings, and I came across this Reserva Original in just the perfect size. I'd describe it as a Lancero, since it has the proper dimensions as other Lanceros, but apparently, Plasencia calls it their Corona. I had been looking at this cigar for a few days before finally smoking it, and the experience was similar to that which I felt on New Year's Day.

This cigar, while not exactly the most full-body cigar in the line, was exceptional. I love the way cigars of this size feel in my hand; something about a long Corona or a Lancero just feels a bit more powerful than other cigars that are just big for the sake of being big. This cigar was easy to cut, retained a lot of freshness in my humidor, and drew perfectly. I don't think I have ever drawn more smoke from a cigar of this size. I was getting so much, and the subtle flavor of this cigar made me want to savor every pull.

From this cigar, I got a definite taste of medium-bold coffee and subtle leather. Toward the middle, I'd say I had a very faint taste of red wine. Not enough to offset the coffee bean that persisted throughout, but it was a touch I noticed as the cigar wore on. It took me about an hour and a half to completely smoke through, and it was the perfect ally to have while watching some playoff hockey. This cigar never needed maintenance or to be re-lit; it smoked beautifully throughout, nice and even. I was even able to put it down and go fill up my water bottle midway through. I never once had a problem with this Plasencia, and the construction and label overall were beautiful.

The flavor and intensity of this cigar are enough for both the seasoned veteran and the new explorer. I don't think this was overpowering at all, and I tasted not an ounce of spice or punch. It was pure flavor that sat in the middle of my mouth, with a great aftertaste. It picked up a little bit of intensity as I got closer to the end of the stick, but nothing that would turn anyone else off of this one. It all came together to give me another positive Plasencia experience.

I don't necessarily believe you always get what you pay for when it comes to cigars. However, I am starting to believe that you always get what you pay for with Plasencia. If you see a Plasencia in a store or online and you can part with the cash, I highly recommend trying anything that this brand has to offer. Between the Alma Fuerte, the Alma de Fuego and this Reserva Original, they offer a quality cigar for people of every experience level.

Definitely give this brand a try. You will be happy with the experience.

Happy smoking!
