Witness Ave Maria’s dark side.

The newest line from the best-selling Ave Maria, Argentum, is out to slay inferior cigars. Since Ave Maria first came on the scene praise has been universal, and we’ve had to put in overtime to make sure this delectable blend remained in stock. Brace yourself for Ave Maria Argentum, which puts the brand’s dark side front and center.

Coming in a black, high gloss, handmade wooden box and arriving in the desired Morning Star vitola, Ave Maria Argentum makes its presence known from the start. Medium to full-bodied, this decadent beast comes dressed for battle in a dark and oily Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. A peek under the armor reveals a luscious and hearty blend of Nicaraguan long-fillers setting the table for a flavorful feast at the round table. Flavors abound, including hearty and pleasing notes of dark chocolate, coffee, leather, cedar, with light spice playing in the background for the duration. Pick up the Ave Maria Argentum and join the fight against lesser blends.

I acquired this Ave Maria Argentum in a trade with a friend after a few rounds of sampler-binging on CigarBid, and I was pretty excited about it. I recently bought a ten pack of Ave Maria Divinias, which I reviewed a few weeks back on the blog, and I was rally happy with the few Toros I have tried so far. I got this one and did a little research and asked for feedback from my friend who traded it to me on his experience. He warned me that this one was a "rocket," which is right in my preference wheelhouse. I unwrapped it and lit it up and was instantly excited for what I knew the cigar would hold.

This cigar announces its arrival early and swiftly. It is full of spice and pepper in the initial draws, and it's enough to let you know that this smoke was going to be anything but mild. I got quite a bit of spice and pepper through the first bulbous portion of the cigar. This cigar's Perfecto size and construction typically lends the cigar to holding a robust amount of flavor as you work your way toward the middle, and the pointed end provides a pretty neat experience when it comes to lighting and starting this cigar. The heavy pepper and spice gives way to some fantastic dark chocolate notes that I absolutely loved tasting. I got quite a good amount of this flavor from this cigar as I worked into the first half of the cigar, and it stayed consistent and delicious throughout. It did keep some of the pepper from the first few lights of the smoke, but the flavors melded together beautifully. I was really liking this cigar as I worked toward the thick nub.

The pepper, spice and chocolate may give some smokers pause when considering trying out this stick, but I encourage anyone who likes a thick, full-bodied cigar to give this one a try. As I worked toward the end of the stick, I was very impressed by the consistency of flavor and strength that this cigar offered me. It didn't change much through the smoke, and the body remained strong toward the end. Some additional things to love about this smoke: the burn is very slow and crisp, and the smoke is aromatic and delicious. It took me about an hour and a half to smoke this one through, putting it down often to go and do other things momentarily. It never needed to be touched up or rel-it. It was fantastically built and offered solid white ash that hung on as long as I let it. The smoke off of the end of the cigar added to the experience and offered a wonderful aroma as I took deep pulls on this cigar. It created an awesome experience that routinely had me thinking about what an excellent full-body cigar I had been gifted.

I'd recommend this cigar to anyone who likes full-body, peppery sticks. I would not recommend this cigar to a newbie who likes smoother, milder offerings, but for someone looking to get into stronger cigars, this is a definite must-try. I'm going to be picking up another pack of these for my own use (not for trade!) and I am very excited to add this powerhouse to my collection. Note that I smoked this cigar a little bit after eating a rather huge salad with a metric fuck ton of chicken on it, so come in with a full stomach and your favorite beverage and enjoy this one to top off a day where you've been well-fed and are ready to relax.

Experienced smokers: try it.

Happy smoking!
