Like father, like son.
Jaime (pronounced Hi-may) Garcia is the son of Don Pepin Garcia, and an integral member of the family business. He's worked side-by-side with Pepin for years and has had in hands in a number of projects. But now, he's got his own eponymous brand - blended entirely solo.
Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial utilizes a dark, oily Broadleaf maduro wrapper paired with a rich blend of Nicaraguan long-fillers with tobaccos from some of the Garcia family's farms. It's on the fuller side, but smooth and layered with notes of espresso, pepper, earth, and cedar. A tasty, well-made stick that will make the old man proud. Burn one of these, and you'll experience the artisanal skill of this family history.
Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial received a well-deserved 90-point rating, noting: "Even though this dark, near-veinless robusto is solid to the touch, it draws wonderfully, leaving full-bodied notes of pepper, wine oak and coffee bean flavors on the palate."
This cigar is completely fantastic in every way imaginable.
Honestly, this one is one of the best cigars out there for the price. For under ten dollars, you get a cigar made by the son of one of the greatest cigar makers in the history of tobacco, Don Pepin Garcia. The Jaime Garcia features a dark and toothy Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper and is full of prime Nicaraguan tobacco. It definitely veers more on the full-body end of the spectrum in terms of power and punch, but with it comes a lot of delicious flavor that is well-known by those who are experienced with Nicaraguan tobacco.
This cigar is going to feature a ton of dark coffee, chocolate, earth, black pepper and leather. These flavors are generally exclusive to darker wrapped cigars, and the story remains the same here. However, there is a certain degree of intensity that this cigar brings on the back end of this cigar, and smoking it toward the nub helps the Jaime show off some even more impressive power and attention to flavor. I loved just drawing on all of the earthy and grungy notes presented by the Jaime.
That said, the Jaime is a very strong cigar, and I'd place it on more of a 5/5 level or strength than a 4/5 level of strength. This cigar packs a big punch and is not for everyone. In fact, I'd say that it is only for those who only smoke a strong cigar; if you like only milder smokes, you aren't going to like this one. However, for a strong cigar smoker, the Jaime is a must-buy to add to your humidor. There are brilliant flavors from top to bottom in this smoke, the draw is fantastic, it's built solidly, and it also offers a delicious and inviting Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper that offers a small amount of sweetness which compliments the natural flavor of this cigar very well.
The Jaime is one of my favorite strong cigars, and for the price, there really aren't a ton of better Toro-sized strong cigars out there. I'd recommend this to anyone who exclusively smokes the stronger stuff, and it is an excellent, budget-conscious choice for anyone who likes their cigars to pack a powerful punch. It's awesome, and you should try it.
Happy smoking! CB
