The most famous of the Romeo y Julieta cigars: 1875.

From their humble beginning making Cuban cigars, to their more modern blends made in the Dominican Republic, RyJ cigars are always in demand. And none more so than 1875. With a slightly oily Indonesian wrapper and Dominican binder and long-filler, this pleasant-tasting cigar offers perfect balance. Not overwhelming, yet very satisfying. Toast the foot, and you’ll find a medium-bodied profile of cedar and earth, with an easygoing draw and nice, slow burn. And after you try just one of these, I guarantee you’ll find that this ever-popular offering from Romeo y Julieta is one of the finest in the business. Around here, 1875 cigars go quickly, so order soon.

Good news! With an esteemed 92-rating, 1875 is officially one of the best Romeo y Julieta cigars around. The Romeo y Julieta 1875 review states, “It has a heavy aroma and a clean, white ash. Strong, toasty flavors smack of wood and leather. There’s a sweetness to the long finish.”

I haven't had one of these Romeo y Julieta 1875 cigars in the longest time, so I decided to fire one up this afternoon and take a trip back to my early days in the hobby with this time-tested and smoker approvied favorite.

The Romeo y Julieta is a name that most cigar smokers know or and have heard about, and I'd bet that everyone who has smoked or started in the hobby of cigar smoking has tried at least one. This 1875 Romeo has a Dominican blend of tobacco, with a unique Indonesian wrapper. This is not a wrapper I frequently sample for my smokes, and it was a nice change of pace from the usual wrapper suspects. This wrapper and the blend of tobacco come together to provide a nice, perfect medium treat that will sit well with most smokers. It's certainly got all of the trademark Dominican flavors, such as wood and leather.

This cigar gave me a pretty distinct note of vanilla in my lone experience with the 1875, and it hung softly in the backdrop of each drag on this one. It was a delicious note that I really found enjoyable. Combined with the subtle spice of the rest of the blend, it provided a really nice balance and flavor to be found on the back end of the exhale from this Romeo. This cigar is sometimes known for not being too strong, but I found it to give me a bit of a tickle in the middle area of my mouth, and it is certainly stronger than it's reputation gives it credit for. It's a good smoke, full of flavor that remains consistent which endures throughout the entire smoke. The burn was razor sharp, and there were never any issues present with construction, pull or wrapping on this one. It was perfectly made and offered me everything I could want from a cigar.

A Romeo y Julieta 1875 is what you get when you think of a cigar: it's probably a little strong for new smokers, but for veteran smokers, it'll slot right in as a perfect medium body smoke that most people can enjoy. It's a bit generic and doesn't allow for much exploration, and all of the flavors it holds are present and persistent from the first pull to the nub. However, this Romeo y Julieta is a perfect example of what a cigar should be: consistent, reliable and tasty. I'd recommend this cigar to anyone, and I'd recommend their Reserva Real line of smokes to those who want a milder choice, and even people looking to break in to the hobby. It's a safe choice that is a good experience each and every time. Try one, especially if you're new to the game.

Happy smoking! Holiday break for the next few days, and us here at Cigar Ledger wish you and yours a happy holiday season. We will be back on Saturday for another review. Thanks for the support this year.

Happy smoking! CB
