Another powerhouse from 601.
Just when you thought 601 Serie couldn’t get any stronger, another fantastic, full-bodied brute has made its way onto the scene. Dressed in a dark, leathery Habano Oscuro wrapper from Nicaragua, this bold handmade employs an extensively aged mixture of Cuban-seed Nicaraguan long-fillers to create a real sparkplug of a cigar.
Each 601 Green Oscuro is meticulously handmade to deliver a potent array of balanced flavor. Heavy in the hand and oily to the touch, the 601 Green Oscuro coats the palate with a dense bouquet loaded with rich, chocolatey flavors, coffee undertones, peppery nuances, and a long, toasty aftertaste.
Great news! 601 Green Oscuro received a well-deserved, 90-point rating, noting: "Dark and lush with good oils. This is a notably spicy perfecto with a core of leather flavors and a long finish. A medium- to full-bodied cigar."
The 601 mini-marathon continues today with the 601 Oscuro. The still-strong yet notably different cousin from the other 601 offerings, the Oscuro wrapper features a darker spice to it, an oily feel and a strong body that come together to create a really unique combination, and one that I think many fans of stronger smokes will like.
True to the form set by other 601 smokes, this one is equally strong and just a great Nicaraguan blend overall. The note that jumped out the most to me was some very light cinnamon at the end of an exhale, and it's a delicious cherry on top of the sundae of delicious Nicaraguan tobacco. This cigar is classic full-body Nicaraguan; it's strong, peppery, and it lets you know that it's not for everyone from the very first draw. This Nicaraguan blend features a little bit of espresso bean, black pepper, a little bit of cocoa, and heavy toast to finish it off. In sum: it's a classic Nicaraguan blend, with familiar flavors, translated in a way that only 601 can. It's strong, full and reserved for those who want to really get a punch of flavor from their cigar.
I don't have too much more to say other than that. 601 is a powerhouse factory as far as cigar blends go, and this one is no different. If you like a strong smoke, this is one you want to search out. The Oscuro wrapper is a sometimes-used, yet consistently awesome choice of wrapper and it compliments this blend of tobacco well. I endorse this one heavily as a really nice full-body smoke, not for novices but one for the seasoned vet who loves a good punch in the palate.
Happy smoking! CB
